MOUNTING, FRAMING AND GIFT WRAPPING SERVICES

We were long ago asked so many times how come we don’t offer framing anymore just because we no longer have a physical retail outlet. The answer was basically the rather fragile nature of glass which was solved by the advent of high grade plastic glass which is practically indistinguishable from glass but is much lighter and doesn’t break.

But unlike a number of online suppliers we don't just put your print into a standard frame. We frame it properly and if you select "natural wood" frame this does not mean we automatically use a plain or stained pine. All it means is that we do not use a plastic or other synthetic frame as some companies do. We use proper wood frames matched to the colours and tones of the picture. Even if you choose a black frame we will look at gloss, matt or graphite options for the moulding to make it look as good as possible.

The photograph here shows a range of framing orders that were in our workshop at the same time. As you can see, they vary tremendously and we have used different kinds of mounts and frames to bring out the best in each picture.

If you have any special requirements about how your picture is framed then please contact us by email as soon as you have placed your order as it can go into the workshop quite quickly depending on how busy we are at the time.

Ordering your prints framed is easy! The framing option has already been added to all the small to medium size prints and posters. For prints or posters larger than this you will need to contact us for a special price. Just order your prints through the website and then email us to specify which ones want framed and we will add on the appropriate amount to your order for framing and confirm it back to you by email for you to approve before we finalize it.

Overseas customers please note that framed items larger than 600 x 440 mm will probably require a substantially increased carriage charge as they will need to be sent by a specialist courier.

All framing is done to the same high standard customers expected of us at Merton Abbey Mills back in the "early days". Each job is carefully considered and an appropriate moulding chosen to match the colours and textures of the image. No more carrying prints down to the shops and all that messing about . You’ll have those pictures delivered to your home already framed and up on the wall in no time at all! You won't believe this but we even include the picture hook ! How about that?

This is an option for those who are buying prints as a form of speculative investment and want to make sure the print stays in pristine condition. The print is attached to an acid-free backing board using plastic corners so that no adhesive is in contact with the print. Framers rarely provide this service automatically so if you are getting your prints framed somewhere else it is a good idea to check whether this will be included. At Artists UK we have added this option to all those prints that could be considered to have collectible value so that it can be selected with or without framing.

A lot of people like the individual approach of picking an image, buying a print or limited edition and sorting out the frame that matches it. Some people find this a rather tiresome business and want something a bit more straightforward. This is for those people. We can mount your prints to fit into the standard frame sizes on offer in the shops (usually 254x204mm(10 x 8"), 240 x 300mm, 300 x 400mm or 400 x 500mm although this may not be the case in countries abroad and you may need to tell us the next size up from the overall size that you need the printed mounted to fit to). All you need to do is add one of these to your order for each print you want SFMS for. If some prints require SFMS and some don't then you'll need to email us to tell us which prints in your order require SFMS. If you take a look at the image and overall sizes given in the catalogue you can probably get some idea how it will work out. Do remember that limited editions will often have a border between the image and the mount for signing and numbering. Just subtract the Image Size and Mount Size from the Overall Size to find out the border if you need to know. SFMS works best if the top and bottom of the mount work out larger than the sides. A print that has a 3cm mount width top and bottom and 8cm on the sides can look a bit odd. IMPORTANT! Maximum image size for SFMS is 340 x 440 (and this only allows for a 30mm mount). Our gift-wrap service is another one of those where people started asking us if we could do it and we thought, yeah, why not, it all helps when you're in a rush doesn't it? So, basically, we will be getting on with the long job of adding this component to all the thousands of products on our website. Unlike many online retailers though there are two things we do differently. Firstl of all, we don't wrap it in paper that shouts about Artists UK and secondly we put a large specially designed decorative label on the package, not a flimsy little gift tag. But then you didn't expect any less from us did you? Any questions or special requests you know where we are ... but we have of course stopped stocking the full size concrete rhinos :-)

Add a drop mount to portrait style print order.

This option that appears for some mounted prints means that we add an extra amount to the border at the bottom of the mount to raise the perspective of the picture. This is often done for portrait style images but less commonly for landscape images where it is not so effective. It is a matter of taste so we have provided this as an extra option you can select when selecting a portrait style print to be supplied as it is or framed.
